The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) has been offering public speech examinations since the 19th Century. The Examinations have an excellent reputation both nationally and internationally and are now regulated by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) in England. Advanced qualifications taken by candidates of 16+ years old now have the additional advantage of attracting UCAS points.

Activ8 Theatre can tutor students in their own homes towards LAMDA examinations. Tuition is offered to individuals or pairs from age 5 upwards. It doesn’t matter what level of experience the individual has; the right qualification can be found. Sessions cost £25 per hour for individuals or £35 per hour for pairs. One free session will be given for every 10 sessions paid for.

The Speaking of Verse and Prose

Candidates will develop the skills necessary for effective oral communication of the written word. By taking these examinations candidates will explore their interpretive skills, technical skills and their knowledge of literature.

Acting

Candidates will develop the skills necessary to communicate dramatic text to an audience. By taking these examinations candidates will explore their interpretive skills, technical skills and their knowledge of the performance process.

Devising Theatre

Candidates will develop the skills necessary to devise a dramatic performance and present it to an audience. By taking these examinations candidates will explore their interpretive skills, technical skills and knowledge of the dramatic structure and the devising process.

Each examination area is split into four levels: Entry Level, Foundation (Grades 1-3), Intermediate (Grades 4-5) and Advanced (Grades 6-8). There are also introductory exams for very young candidates.

Candidates may take solo examinations in the Speaking of Verse and Prose. In the Acting and Devising areas candidates may take solo, duo or combined (one solo piece and one duo) examinations. Examinations often compliment each other and a variety of areas can be studied.
